The Most Recommended Acoustic Guitars for Beginners
So the sweet wooden panty dropper is your choice? Alright then. Lets take a look at what your soon to be fellow guitarists recommend to beginners like you. For this list I've gone through websites that recommend acoustic guitars and top 10 acoustic guitars lists. I have noticed a trend on all these lists and so I will rank guitars on my list that are always on those lists and that appear near the top. All these guitars are of the dreadnought style. Dreadnought is the style of acoustic guitar that you would think of when you think acoustic guitar. It was larger than all the other guitars that existed when it came out about 100 years ago but now its pretty much the standard. It's also a bad ass name in general.
[NUMBER 1] Seagull S6
This baby ranked number 1 on all the lists I could find. The S in its name stands for 'solid' which refers to the top layer of wood on the side where the sound hole is. Now when an acoustic guitar is said to have a solid top is means that it has better sound definition and it's louder than laminate top acoustic guitars. So generally its thought of as a good thing.
This is a great choice for a beginner because the fret board is easy on the fingers so you'll go from zero to hero with much more ease. Also the reviews all say the sound quality is outstanding and everyone agrees that for a beginner guitar this is where you should go.
One problem: its about $420 for the cheapest. This is not in everyone's price range that's for sure, so if you cant afford this timber weapon of sound destruction then lets check some others out.
[NUMBER 2] Yamaha FG700S or FG720S or FG730S
What's that you ask? They look so similar? Well that doesn't matter. Remember when your mom said don't judge a book by its cover well don't judge a guitar by its looks. Like I said in my previous post, some guitars look the same but sound different. The Yamaha FG series ranked around 2nd or 3rd on most lists while same ranked it first because its cheaper than the Seagull S6.
It's an acoustic guitar with good quality sound for a decent price at around $200. It also has an S in it's name so it also has a solid top which gives it better sound. If you're starting to notice a pattern here good, if not then now is when I can say that these reviews for beginner acoustic guitars focus on sound a lot. That's because as you learn guitar you'll train your ear. Don't train it wrong!
If this is closer to your budget then go check it out.
[NUMBER 3] Takamine G340 or G340 SC
Taka-what now? Takamine (Tah-kah-me-neh). This mofo is in the same price range as the Yamaha FG700S at about $200 but if you go for the G340 SC (solid top again man) then that will add about $100 to $140 in the price. Either seems to be fine but I would go for the solid top for the better sound quality.
The Takamine lands around 3rd of 4th on most lists. All the reviews say that this is an acoustic guitar made with beginners in mind. That's a bold statement and I for one will try this one out at the music store with that in mind.
Going back to my other post about choosing guitars, this guitar doesn't really have the look I would want. But that's just me and that's all subjective in the end anyway.
I hear good things about Fender, Ibanez, Alvarez and Gibson as well. Although the one thing that would never come up is brand. When you go to buy things a lot of people say stick with the known brands. My feeling here is that when it comes to guitar that doesn't matte as much. It's about so much more than that: size, shape, feeling, sounds, look. Looks for reviews and go play them yourself.
