My Guitar Setup

I'm back from my one week hiatus after switching apartments. Moving is stressful so I need to start jamming soon. With all that research at my disposal I would definitely go for an acoustic. I want to focus on strumming, I like that it can be used anywhere and doesn't require electricity and, well I think it looks and feels pretty sweet. I would have gone for the Yamaha FG700S because out of all the ones I saw and felt, it was the best. The Seagull was too expensive and the Takamine G340 was awesome in terms of sound but all that gold trimming turned me off.

BUT, in a twist of fate I actually already have a guitar. I was given one as a Christmas present last year. As you can now see, I am a bit of a procrastinator because I am only learning now. I was too busy being awesome and fighting crime and leaping buildings in a single bound but hey I'm back on track so ease up on me.

MY GEAR

This is Daffy named so because he has is black, full of quack and has the slightest tinge of evil. Daffy is a 41" Gibson Maestro. Its a pretty good beginner guitar because there is decent action (room between the strings and fret board) and it's less on the expensive side.

The Gibson Maestro has a darker, tougher sound. That's what I like about ole Daffy. I'm into Metal and so the darker sound appeals to my inner metalhead.

In my research I discovered that Daffy has a few problems. And that's good because that's what research is for: finding problems. The bridge seems to break a lot (that's the part at the bottom where the start) . Now thanks to my research that is something I can expect. I have a replacement bridge ready to go if or when my bridge does decide to give up and break.

This is the tuner I went with. Tuners used to have small microphones in them but these new ones work completely on vibration.

It allows for more accuracy when tuning because you wont have the tuner picking up all the other sounds around you through the mic.

When it comes to tuners it just about having one. Most are decent and you definitely want to keep tuning the guitar at first because it will drop out of tuning quite a bit.

Starting soon to the blog with be a series of short posts on different tricks and tips. My next full post will be the first lesson and I think the most important.
